Hey there,

I'll just be blunt in saying Im not a speed skater. In fact I cant even skate that well. I'm a track sprint cyclist. A good number of the worldest finest are infact ex- speed skaters. Current world champ Theo Bos's older brother was an Olympian for the Netherlands in speed skating.

Im wondering if somone coach or strengh trainer wise can email me what kind of gym excersises SpeedSkaters do. OR steer me to a website with that kind of stuff. I would hazzard a guess thats its pretty dam close to what we do. Squats, press, leg extention, hamstring curls, calf work blah blah, Do skaters to plyo work?

Id be more than happy to trade what a track sprinters gym work looks like thruout the year in case it offers some benfits also.
Thanks a ton in advance. Jamie

Hello Jamie,

yes speed skaters do plyo work, mostly in summer as preparation for the season. As in cycling, the trainning of sprint athletes and endurance athletes is very different. Same thing for musculation. This trainning is mostly done in summer, but most of the skaters do also in winter to maintain the gain acquired in summer.

Swiss ball and board similar to the following are also commonly used for training.

Track cycling and speed skating are two discipline very similar and the time for pursuit in 400m track and speed skating are not far from each other.
