Two-time Olympic medalist Hiroyasu Shimizu, whose campaign
at the Turin Games ended in disappointment, said he will
continue with his career as a competitive speed skater at least for
another season.
Speed skating team pursuit could become a mixed event
International Skating Union (ISU) President Ottavio Cinquanta said Saturday the men's and women's pursuit race in speed skating may be combined into a single race. He added combining the two races was in line with the policy of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to streamline the Games.
Canada protests women's 500m short track speed skating race
TURIN, Italy (AP) -- The Canadian Olympic Committee filed a complaint
Thursday with the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the finish of the women's
500-meter short track final.
The Canadians contend silver medalist Evgenia Radanova of Bulgaria crossed
the finish line with her front skate tilted in the air Wednesday. The rules
require skaters to cross the line with both skates on the ice.
