Junior Country matchLast 4-5 March, juniors of six countries had a special meet at Junior Coutry Match, a competition of preparation to the junior world's championship few days later. Here are the comments of three athletes coming from Québec within the canadian team; Philippe Riopel, Justine L'Heureux and Marie-Pier Gervais-Moreau.

I come back from Germany Monday, memorable trip! We first stopped at Berlin for the Junior Country Match, a competition regrouping six countries; Canada, USA, Germany, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands. For a first experience at international level, I was very satisfied. We have won a bronze medal in the team pursuit. I wasn't too much stressed and I did good races.

During the second week, we were at Erfurt, a small typically European city. The ice was superb! The sport complex where we skated was one of the most beautiful I had seen in my young career. Friday, I have succeeded of qualify me on the Canadian development team thanks to a 8th position on the 500m. At the starting line, I knew I was in a good pair. I was starting on the outer lane which gives me the last inside corner. Good thing for me because it is usually there that I build my speed. I was paired with an American who had finish in 3rd position last week at Berlin. Thus if I stayed close to him, I knew that the top 8 was reachable. Finally, after my race, I see a little 8 next to my name. Consequently, I have understood that I qualified myself on the Canadian development team because I was in the last pair. After that race, I had a little bit difficulty to concentrate me, but I am still proud of what I had done at my first international competition.

The trip was very fun. It was my first visit to Germany so at Berlin, we have visited a lot. There are so much things to see; history, museums and historic sites. My races at the Country Match were in general good. My 1000m has been my best race and the others were not as well. At the team pursuit, we finished 4th. Still good. About the mondial at Erfurt, I can only say that it wasn't my best competition. I started with a decent 9th place on the 500m. After that, my 1000m and 1500m have been more difficult. Usually, my best distance is the 3000m and this time it was disastrous. I finished the competition in 14th position compared to 16th last year. Indeed, that was not my best competition of the year. But I say myself that we learn from the mistakes we are doing.

I really loved my experience at the Country Match! Everyone there was nice. The environment was also nice during the races. I am also happy with my performances.
