The Leading Edge Short Track Speedskating Club was organized in Summer 2004, to allow more practice time for competitive area skaters.  We belong to the Chesapeake Speedskating Association, which oversees clubs in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.  We are also members of U.S. Speedskating, which is the national governing organization of amateur and elite speedskating.

Our members range in age from 5 to over 60, and include skaters of all abilities from beginner to advanced.  Members come from the greater metropolitan area, including Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.  We have some skaters who come from as far away as North Carolina on a weekly basis for practice. 

The Club is fortunate to have as its coach, Yunmi Kim, a two time Olympic gold medal winner (1994 and 1998) for the National Korean Women’s Team.  Yunmi works with all of our skaters, from beginners to advanced, to help each skater improve their skills and enjoy the sport of speedskating.
