This year has been the year of the records. Indeed, records were lowered in almost all the distances . Only the ladies' 500m (Le May Doan), ladies' 5000m (Pechstein), junior men's 500m (Kato) and junior men's 1000m (Nijenhuis) have resisted. Furthermore, Marcel Warnaar, on the Yahoo speed skating realized interesting statistics in regard of national records and track records.
Last 4-5 March, juniors of six countries had a special meet at Junior Coutry Match, a competition of preparation to the junior world's championship few days later. In some hours, athetes will be skating the 10 000m at the Lingotto oval. If Netherlands and Sweden appear the best countries in that distance so far, american Chad Hedrick has great chance to win this event, like past olympic winner Jochem Uytdehaage who won both the 5000m and 10000m.
