Tomorrow, long track speed skaters will be skating the 1000m. There are many contenders and everything can happen in the Olympics, but here are some statistics collected by Lars Finsen in the Yahoo speed skating groups that may be helpful in order to make us a better idea.

December 27-31, 2005 marked the dates of the US Long Track Championships in Salt Lake City at the Utah Olympic Oval, which also doubled as the US Olympic Trials. Several skaters were pre-qualified in their best distances for The Olympic Games, and others had a hard battle ahead of them. All but one of the pre-qualified skaters competed, Shani Davis, who is pre-qualified in the 1000m, 1500m and 5000m. Davis had skated in the US Short Track Trials just two weeks earlier but placed sixth overall. The US Short Track Team will only be taking five men and five women to Torino.

On January 1st, US speed skating has nominated 8 ladies and 10 mens for Torino games. This group have all the chances to make very good figure at the time of these games. Return in image on these Olympic selections.
