TURIN, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Shani Davis of the U.S. won the men's 1,000 metres speedskating gold medal at the Turin Winter Olympics on Saturday.

Compatriot Joey Cheek took the silver and Erben Wennemars of the Netherlands the bronze.

TURIN, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Germany won the women's speedskating team pursuit gold medal at the Winter Olympics on Thursday beating Canada in the final.

Germany's Daniela Anschuetz, Anni Friesinger and Claudia Pechstein immediately took the lead and were never really threatened.

Canada's Kristina Groves, Clara Hughes and Christine Nesbitt picked up the silver.

Russia took the bronze after Japan, who had been leading, fell halfway through their contest.

TURIN, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Host nation Italy seized the speedskating men's team pursuit gold medal at the Winter Olympics on Thursday with a convincing victory over Canada in the final.

Italy led from the start and extended their lead to 2.82 seconds by the finish, drawing roars from the home crowd.

The Dutch took the bronze after outpacing Norway.

The win by the Italians gives Enrico Fabris his second medal of the Games, having won bronze in the individual 5,000 metres.

Evgenia Radanova of Bulgaria took the silver and Anouk Leblanc-Boucher of Canada the bronze.
