International Skating Union (ISU) President Ottavio Cinquanta said Saturday the men's and women's pursuit race in speed skating may be combined into a single race. He added combining the two races was in line with the policy of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to streamline the Games.
The new event was proposed at the ISU congress in Turin and could be put in place at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.
It would be the first mixed event in speed skating and would join mixed doubles in badminton and other racket sports, and pairs and ice dancing in figure skating in the Winter and Summer Olympic Games
